Life Changes

I made a promise to myself not to publicly write anything about changes I’m starting in 2011 until I got through January because most people don’t make it through 4 weeks with their new goals. I’m not most people, so here we are.  I’ve kept mine, they are few and simple, and I’m sharing them with you so that when I hit them I can say “look, I nailed that goal and I told the world I was going to do it”.

Remember, these aren’t “resolutions for 2011” or “things I’m doing because all my friends are”, this is real selfish shit. I don’t care what anyone thinks or says, these will happen, regardless of how long it takes.

So here it is, my life changes that I happened to start in 2011.

1) See my abs again. Simple and selfish. I was 16 years old the last time I saw my abs and I will see them again. I’m not a huge person, although my BMI is currently in the “overweight” category, so I know I’ve got work to do and I have been doing it. Three years ago I lost 30 lbs by changing the food I ate and never going to the gym, but I didn’t see my abs. I read the food and exercise chapters of Tim Ferriss’s new book “The Four Hour Body” and have adopted (with hacks) some of the slow carb methods that he teaches. I’m taking a picture of everything that I consume and posting with some friends at www.our4hb.com just for some extra motivation and accountability. I’m down 8 lbs but can’t see my abs yet, so the show goes on. This might take a year or two, but I will get there and I will make it known when I do.

2) Create a software application that solves my own problem. Told you, simple and selfish. The fact that I spent 7 years in big corp as a software product manager making $$$ for da man, doesn’t mean shit. No one cares. People do care that software is changing the world though. I love it; the pace, the energy, the power that can be obtained so quickly when you build something that matters. Mobile and web software is my focus and I will win there, even if my win is only to hit life change #1 (abs), that will be great. It’s early, but I have built an SMS text application and website with a couple of friends called Healthklerk which is going to turn the personal health and wellness space on its head once and for all. I’ve really fallen for the health and wellness space because I think there is so much opportunity to disrupt it, and again, it’s a selfish problem that I want to solve. More to come on Healthklerk as we open it up for beta signups.

So that’s it, just two simple and selfish life changes I’m making and that I’m on the road to achieving. Of course there are other goals that I have like spending more time with family and friends, making enough money to create my own flexibility and helping causes bigger than myself. But for now, these are the only two in the life changes category, they will get laser focus and ultimately be achieved.

I challenge you to come up with only 2 things to permanently change in your life and do it. Screw what everyone else says, do it for yourself and no one else. Make a decision and go.

Life logo credit to www.life.com they own it, I don’t, I just thought it would be cool to use in this post and give them credit.
